Launceston |
Launceston is the third-oldest city in Australia and the commercial centre of northern Tasmania. It is a pleasant place to spend a few days, and there are a number of attractions in the surrounding areas like the “Cataract Gorge” where the near-vertical cliffs line the banks of the South Esk River as it enters the Tamar. Around the gorge are a wildlife reserve and two walking tracks. In Launceston you can visit the “Queen Victoria Museum & Art Gallery”, the “Planetarium”, “Boag’s Brewery” and the “Penny Royal Complex”, which has historic exhibits. Worth-seeing is also the “National Automobile Museum of Tasmania” and the “Old Umbrella Shop”. The “Metro Backpackers”, the “Launceston Backpackers” and the “Batman Fawkner Inn” offer a night in a dorm for A$ 15-20. |
