Port Lincoln |
Port Lincoln is a prosperous and bustling town 662 km from Adelaide at the southern end of the “Eyre Peninsula”. The town has grown to become the tuna-fishing capital of Australia and a popular holiday spot, complete with marina and numerous sea based activities. The “Cape Carnot” (Whales Way) is 32 km south of Port Lincoln and features beautiful and rugged coastal scenery. Unfortunately it’s privately owned, but you can get a 24-hour permit for A$ 20 per car. They’re available from most petrol stations and the visitor centre in Port Lincoln. 3 km detour off the road to Whalers Way are the beautiful beaches at “Sleaford Bay”, but there’s a strong rip so it’s best not to swim. The “Lincoln National Park” is also south of Port Lincoln, again with a magnificent coastline, including quit coves with safe swimming and pounding surf beaches. Popular are also whale-watching tours. You can visit Koalas in the “Mikkira Station and Koala Sanctuary” and you have a fantastic panorama view over the coast at the “Winter Hill Lookout”. |
