Tennant Creek |
Tennant Creek is the only town of any size between Katherine and Alice Springs. It was Australia’s last gold-rush town. It is also unusual in that most of the gold deposits were not found in quartz, but in the jet-black-ironstone. Many travellers spend a night here to break up there journey and to see the town’s few attractions. The “Devil Marbels” are 114 km south of Tennant Creek and the smaller “Devil Pebbles” are 17 km northwest of this city. They get a beautiful shine in the light of the sunset. The “Mary Ann Dam”2 km northeast is a nice swimming place and you get a good view from “Big Allen Lookout” The “Tourist’s Rest Tennant Creek Hostel” and the “Safari Backpackers YHA” offer with A$ 16-17 per dorm a possibility to stay overnight. |
